Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Services in Savannah
Christmas carries several distinct meanings. For some, it is a fun-filled day of gift giving – and, of course, receiving. For others, it is a time of charity and goodwill. Still, it is a time during which loved ones gather and create special memories. And for many, it is a day of piety and devotion.
If Christmas is a day of religious reflection and gratitude for you and yours, Savannah is a good place to be. Numerous special services will be held all around town Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. With services in a wide variety of denominations, Savannah has everything needed to spend this Christmas in the way that is most meaningful for you. Here’s your guide to holiday services on December 24 and 25.
Savannah’s most iconic cathedral will be hosting several masses during the Christmas holiday. The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist will host a noon mass as well as a vigil at 5:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day, there will be a a midnight mass as well as services at 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. The Spanish-language Latin mass at 11:30 a.m. on Christmas Day concludes the holiday masses.
Formerly Savannah Christian, Compassion Christian Church is hosting several Christmas Eve and Day services at each of their six campuses. On Christmas Eve, services will be held at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at most of the church’s locations. Christmas Eve service will take place at 7 p.m. at the downtown campus, The Savannah Theatre. Christmas Day service kicks off at 11 a.m. at each location. For a full list of Christmas services by location, click here.
Known by members as “The Mighty Fortress”, St. John Baptist Church will conduct special Christmas Day services at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.
A parish that lightheartedly refers to itself as “Saint James the Less Catholic Church” is holding masses for the Christmas holiday. A rosary prayer service at 8:30 on the morning of Christmas eve will start the day. Mass will be held at 9 a.m., and a vigil mass will be held later at 5 p.m. On Christmas Day, masses will be held at 7:30 a.m., 9 a.m., and 11:30 am.
Southside Savannah church Overcoming by Faith will host two special Christmas services on Christmas Day. The first of which starts at 9 a.m; the second service will follow at 11. The children’s ministry will hold simultaneous Christmas services for youths through grade five.
Located on Victory Drive, Blessed Sacrament will host two Christmas Eve masses at 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. The following Christmas Day masses will be held at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
The Christmas services at St. John’s Church begin on the eve morning with a holy communion at 10:30 a.m. At 5 p.m, the church will host a Christmas pageant filled with songs of jubilee. On Christmas Day, the church will conduct a special holy communion service at 10:30 a.m.
The Catholic Community of St. Frances Cabrini, located on Middleground Road, will host Christmas Eve mass at 6 p.m. Christmas Day mass will take place at 10 a.m.
For interfaith services this Christmas, plan to attend Unitarian Universalist Chruch of Savannah. Their Christmas Eve Family service at 6 p.m. will provide an inclusive, inspiring message for all this holiday season. Look forward to beautiful carols from the choir and other gifted vocalists. Christmas Day worship services are at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
